Brian is an experienced attorney and engineer with 25 years of expertise in technology, law, and policy, focusing on privacy, data security, and AI compliance. After starting his career as a project engineer with a B.S.M.E., he represented technology clients in contract, regulatory, and intellectual property matters and guided AI systems development as General Counsel for an AI engineering firm specializing in trustworthy AI/ML. Brian is a certified lead auditor under ISO 42001 and an active member of the Northern Virginia Technology Council’s Executive Circle.

Biography

E. Brian Alexander combines engineering expertise with extensive legal experience to help clients navigate the legal and strategic challenges of emerging technologies and regulatory compliance. Before entering the legal profession, Brian worked as a project engineer and manager in the construction and land development sectors, where he led contract negotiations and dispute resolution for multimillion-dollar projects. This hands-on technical experience gives him a unique perspective on the legal issues surrounding technology development and implementation.

As a General Counsel for an AI engineering firm, Brian helped spearhead initiatives to design, develop and implement compliant AI systems, including a groundbreaking AI as a Service (AIaaS) platform. Working with multidisciplinary teams of engineers and data scientists, he operationalized AI and privacy technical standards and ensured alignment with global regulations, including the EU AI Act, and AI and data governance best practices. His work empowers clients to innovate responsibly while maintaining compliance and safeguarding reputation.

Brian’s practice also encompasses intellectual property, cybersecurity, and privacy law. He has managed international IP portfolios, guided organizations through U.S. and E.U. patent prosecution, and led the development of information security and privacy programs compliant with GDPR, U.S. state and federal laws, and ISO and NIST standards. Brian has counseled clients on AI, data and corporate governance and strategy, including implementation of AI, information security and privacy policies and ethics standards. His expertise extends to conducting AI systems impact and risk assessments, data protection impact assessments and advising on cross-border data transfers. Brian has counseled clients on AI, cybersecurity and privacy matters operating in the financial services, healthcare, education, energy and manufacturing sectors and clients offering technology, engineering and legal services.

A seasoned litigator, Brian has represented various clients in high-stakes patent disputes and complex litigation involving advanced technologies. His strategic approach and technical acumen make him a trusted advocate in resolving intricate legal challenges.
