The Vision AI+ Law Group (part of The CommLaw Group) helps technology-driven businesses navigate the legal, technical and operational challenges created by artificial intelligence, data use and cybersecurity. We advise both developers of AI systems and organizations that procure, integrate or use AI, combining deep knowledge of communications law, privacy, security and emerging technology with a practical understanding of how AI products and systems are actually designed and operated.
Our team works across the product lifecycle, from early-stage concept and system architecture through development, testing, launch, commercialization, governance, incident response and regulatory defense. We translate complex and rapidly changing requirements into practical decisions that support innovation, reduce risk and help clients bring products to market with confidence.

A Multidisciplinary Practice Built for AI and Data-Driven Business
AI, privacy and security issues rarely arise in isolation. A single product may implicate communications laws, consent and disclosure requirements, consumer protection standards, privacy obligations, cybersecurity expectations, intellectual property rights, sector-specific rules, contracting issues and emerging AI regulation. We provide coordinated counsel across these overlapping areas so clients can evaluate the complete risk profile of a product, service or use case rather than addressing legal requirements in disconnected silos.
Our clients include telecommunications providers, cloud communications platforms, software and technology companies, AI developers, solution providers, enterprises deploying third-party AI tools, investors and businesses introducing technology into new markets. We advise established companies and emerging businesses alike, tailoring our approach to the client’s technology, risk profile, commercial objectives and stage of development.
Artificial Intelligence
- Product design and launch: Assess proposed products and features; review data sources, retention, notices, consent, testing, and safeguards; and help teams document decisions and prepare for launch
- Governance and risk management: Build AI inventories, policies, risk and impact assessments, vendor diligence processes, monitoring practices, and training that fit the organization’s systems and exposure.
- Contracts and commercialization: Negotiate development, licensing, procurement, vendor, and integration agreements addressing rights in models, data, and outputs; training and reuse; performance; security; audit rights; and allocation of risk.
- AI voice and communications: Advise on conversational AI, voice agents, automated calling, call-recording, transcription, call analytics, and authentication tools. We address calling and messaging rules, recording and consent, customer information, disclosures, and service-provider responsibilities.
- Regulatory readiness: Determine how U.S. federal and state AI requirements, the EU AI Act, automated decision-making laws, biometric and voice requirements, and sector-specific obligations apply to particular systems and use cases.
Privacy and Data Protection
- Privacy compliance programs: Assess federal, state, and international requirements, including GDPR; design policies and controls that reflect a client’s data practices and the sectors its products serve.
- Notices, consent, and individual rights: Draft privacy notices and product disclosures, review consent and preference flows, and establish processes for consumer and data subject requests.
- Data governance and product review: Map and classify data; conduct privacy and data protection impact assessments; and review retention and privacy-by-design choices, including data used to train, operate, or evaluate AI systems.
- Vendors and international data use: Negotiate data processing terms, assess vendor practices, and advise on cross-border transfers and localization requirements.
- Telecommunications privacy: Counsel carriers, VoIP and cloud communications providers, and messaging platforms on customer proprietary network information, call and message data, recordings, account authentication, and the overlap between communications-specific and general privacy rules.
Cybersecurity and Data Security
- Security governance and risk assessments: Identify applicable federal, state, sector-specific, and international requirements; conduct risk and gap assessments; and develop security policies, standards, and oversight practices.
- Security in products and operations: Advise on security-by-design, authentication, account protection, access control, data retention, and other safeguards for products and services.
- Vendor and contract obligations: Assess supply-chain risks and negotiate security responsibilities in customer, vendor, cloud, and technology agreements.
- Incident preparedness: Develop response plans and escalation protocols, clarify decision-making responsibilities, and conduct tabletop exercises with legal and operational teams.
- Incidents and regulatory response: Assess exposure and notification duties, preserve privilege, coordinate forensic work, and handle customer and regulator communications. We also advise on contractual claims and remediation involving personal information, communications data, credentials, AI systems, and third-party providers.
Global Market Entry & Regulatory Matters
- Regulatory mapping and launch planning: Identify the rules that apply to a product and its use cases in each target market, prioritize required changes, and help teams prepare for launch.
- AI and data protection compliance: Address EU AI Act and GDPR requirements, cross-border data transfers, localization, and jurisdiction-specific privacy and security obligations.
- Product and contract localization: Review notices, disclosures, consent practices, and agreements with customers, distributors, resellers, platforms, and service providers.
- Coordinated international advice: Work with local counsel when jurisdiction-specific advice is needed and consolidate that advice into a practical plan for a multi-country launch.
- Investigations and regulatory defense: Support internal investigations, regulator inquiries, enforcement matters, and disputes involving AI, privacy, security, communications, and consumer protection.
